A powerful El Nino could contribute to more than 450,000 additional heat-related deaths through February 2027, according to a new research projection. The greatest burden is expected in poorer, hotter regions, where limited access to cooling, water, healthcare, and emergency resources can amplify the dangers of extreme heat.
