On the second anniversary of Israel’s war on Gaza, Türkiye’s communications chief Burhanettin Duran calls the ongoing occupation and civilian deaths a “systematic genocide,” warning of global moral collapse and failed justice.

Türkiye Marks Two Years Since Gaza Onslaught
Türkiye’s Head of Communications, Burhanettin Duran, has sharply condemned what he called Israel’s systematic genocide and occupation in Gaza, as the world marks the second anniversary of the October 7, 2023 attacks.
In a statement released Tuesday on Turkish social media platform NSosyal, Duran said Israel’s actions have killed more than 67,000 Palestinians, warning that the humanitarian crisis in Gaza reflects the collapse of international justice.
“This is not only the tragedy of the Palestinian people,” Duran wrote, “but also a record of shame for humanity. The silence of the international community has once again exposed the failure of global justice mechanisms.”
‘A Deliberate, Systematic Genocide’
Duran accused Israel of conducting a deliberate campaign of destruction, describing it as “bombings, blockades, and systematic annihilation” that have wiped out families, displaced millions, and targeted civilians.
“What is happening in Gaza is not a conflict — it is a deliberate, systematic genocide and occupation,” he said, emphasizing that women and children have borne the brunt of the violence.
He noted that the continuing blockade of Gaza and Israel’s control over resources, aid, and borders amount to an effort to erase Palestinian identity and sovereignty.
The remarks were accompanied by a video titled “Endless Genocide: Gaza,” shared on official channels, documenting the devastation, bombed neighborhoods, and suffering of displaced families in the besieged enclave.
Türkiye Reaffirms Its Support for Palestinians
Duran underscored that Türkiye’s position on the conflict remains “unwavering,” both diplomatically and morally.
“Under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, we continue to stand with the oppressed and raise our voice for justice,” he stated. “This struggle will not end until the voices of the Palestinians are heard and justice is achieved.”
Türkiye has been one of the most vocal critics of Israel’s military operations in Gaza and has repeatedly called for international accountability, including investigations into alleged war crimes and human rights violations.
Ankara has also expanded its humanitarian aid operations, sending medical teams, supplies, and relief efforts through Egyptian and Qatari coordination channels, even as the blockade on Gaza has severely limited access for aid convoys.
International Silence and the Collapse of Global Justice
Duran warned that the silence of Western powers and the inaction of international organizations — including the United Nations and the International Criminal Court — have enabled continued atrocities in Gaza.
“The collapse of justice has now become the greatest threat to humanity itself,” he said. “Those who choose silence today will be remembered as complicit.”
Analysts say Türkiye’s strong rhetoric reflects growing frustration across the Global South over the perceived double standards in global governance, particularly regarding human rights enforcement and the protection of civilians.
Two Years On: Gaza’s Endless Humanitarian Crisis
The October 7 anniversary has reignited calls for justice, reconstruction, and accountability. According to humanitarian agencies, Gaza remains on the brink of total collapse, with infrastructure destroyed, hospitals bombed, and millions displaced in what many describe as the worst humanitarian catastrophe of the 21st century.
Türkiye’s renewed statements come as global efforts to broker a ceasefire continue to stall, and the international community faces growing moral pressure to act.
As Burhanettin Duran concluded: “The world cannot claim to defend human rights while ignoring Gaza. Every day of silence deepens the wound of injustice.”
