Türkiye Accuses Israel of Sabotaging Gaza Ceasefire — Calls for Global Accountability at Istanbul Summit

At a high-level meeting in Istanbul, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan accused Israel of violating the US-backed Gaza ceasefire and obstructing humanitarian aid, calling for international accountability and renewed global efforts for peace and reconstruction.

Türkiye’s foreign minister, Hakan Fidan, has issued a strong rebuke against Israel, accusing it of sabotaging the ceasefire in Gaza and failing to uphold its humanitarian obligations. Speaking after a major ministerial summit in Istanbul, Fidan said Israel’s actions are worsening the already severe crisis in the enclave.

“Israel is not fulfilling its commitments,” Fidan declared. “The number of aid trucks entering Gaza is far below what was agreed upon.”

The meeting brought together foreign ministers and representatives from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Jordan, Pakistan, and Indonesia, reflecting growing concern among Muslim nations about Israel’s continued military operations and aid restrictions despite the truce.

Israel’s Ceasefire Violations and Civilian Toll

Fidan revealed that at least 250 Palestinians have been killed since the US-backed ceasefire took effect, highlighting Israel’s “provocative actions” and disregard for its obligations.

He also emphasized that Türkiye supports a lasting political solution grounded in international law and urged global powers to hold Israel accountable for undermining peace.

“The international community must ensure that all sides preserve the peace process and prevent actions that could sabotage progress,” he added.

Gaza’s Reconstruction and Hamas’ Readiness

The Turkish foreign minister said that Türkiye and its partners are actively coordinating reconstruction, administration, and recovery efforts in Gaza. He noted Hamas’ willingness to transfer control to a Palestinian committee focused on safeguarding citizens’ rights.

Fidan stressed the urgency of international coordination before winter sets in, warning that Gaza’s humanitarian crisis is deepening daily.

Potential International Stabilisation Force

When asked about a possible international peacekeeping mission, Fidan stated that Türkiye is ready to contribute troops—but only within an agreed international framework.

“We’re ready to make sacrifices for peace,” he said, “but we need a clear and agreeable structure first.”

Follow-Up from New York Meeting

This summit followed a leaders’ meeting in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, where Muslim nations and the US discussed Gaza’s reconstruction and long-term stability.

The group reaffirmed support for a comprehensive Arab League and OIC initiative, including security arrangements, Palestinian Authority reform, and international backing for Gaza’s recovery and self-governance.

Fidan’s Final Message

Fidan concluded by stressing that global unity is essential to stop further escalation and ensure that the ceasefire evolves into lasting peace.

“Türkiye will continue to stand with the Palestinian people,” he said, “and we call on the world to demand accountability from Israel.”
