Somali Presidential Aide: Türkiye a Front-Runner in Foreign Investments

A Somali presidential aide says Türkiye leads in foreign investments, boosting infrastructure, ports, airports, and social sectors while supporting natural resource exploration.

Türkiye Strengthens Economic Footprint in Somalia

A senior Somali presidential aide has confirmed that Türkiye is now a front-runner in foreign investments across Somalia, particularly in critical infrastructure, transport, and social services.

The official emphasized that Ankara’s support has been instrumental in the country’s recovery, highlighting that Türkiye has helped Somalia modernize airports, expand seaports, and develop key social sectors such as education and healthcare.

A Partnership Beyond Aid

Unlike traditional donor relationships, Türkiye’s engagement in Somalia is described as strategic investment rather than short-term aid. According to the aide, Türkiye has provided Somalia with both capital and expertise, supporting projects that have long-term economic value.

“Türkiye is not just building roads and ports; it is helping us discover and utilize our natural resources,” the aide said, underlining Ankara’s role in mapping Somalia’s untapped reserves.

Airports, Seaports, and Social Development

Türkiye has taken a central role in modernizing Mogadishu’s Aden Adde International Airport, expanding port facilities, and building hospitals and schools. These investments have created jobs and strengthened local governance by ensuring Somali-led management with Turkish expertise.

The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) has been active in implementing projects in education, agriculture, and healthcare, further boosting people-to-people ties.

Natural Resource Potential

Somalia, which lies along the Horn of Africa’s energy corridor, has long been believed to hold untapped oil and gas reserves. Türkiye’s involvement in exploration and resource mapping could reshape Somalia’s economic future, reducing dependence on foreign aid.

“Türkiye is walking with us through this critical journey,” the aide noted, framing the partnership as a path toward economic independence and stability.

Strategic and Political Alliance

Beyond economics, Somalia views Türkiye as a trusted political ally. Turkish troops have trained thousands of Somali security forces at Camp TURKSOM, helping strengthen state capacity against extremist threats.

This dual role—both as investor and security partner—makes Türkiye unique among Somalia’s international partners.

Looking Ahead

As Somalia continues to rebuild, officials say Türkiye’s commitment is expected to expand into new sectors, including renewable energy, mining, and digital technologies.

For Somalia, the presence of a reliable foreign partner offers hope of achieving sustainable growth after decades of conflict. For Türkiye, it reinforces its position as a key power in Africa, blending diplomacy, investment, and soft power.
