On Monday, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan proudly announced that Türkiye is now among the world’s 11 nations capable of building its own communications satellites. Speaking at the TURKSAT 6A commissioning ceremony, Erdoğan described the achievement as “a historic leap” for the nation’s technological future.
“With TURKSAT 6A, developed with more than 80% local content, Türkiye has become one of the 11 countries able to produce its own communications satellite,” he declared, to thunderous applause.
This success crowns 20 years of relentless innovation, ambition, and national pride.

The launch of TURKSAT 6A is not just a technical milestone — it’s a game-changer for Türkiye’s global presence. Coverage by Turkish satellites will now soar from 3.5 billion people to a staggering 5 billion worldwide, Erdoğan announced
“Our new satellite propels us into a new era. Türkiye now has the opportunity to create its own national satellite brand and its own national space company,” he said.
Building a National Powerhouse in Space Technology
The TURKSAT 6A project is the centerpiece of Türkiye’s larger ambition to become a global leader in domestic and national technology.
President Erdoğan emphasized that the satellite’s creation reflects Türkiye’s determination to achieve full technological independence — and to inspire future generations of engineers, scientists, and innovators.
“We are not just users of technology. We are now makers and pioneers,” Erdoğan stated.
Türkiye Looks Beyond Horizons: Strengthening Global Ties
On Friday, Erdoğan hosted New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon for an official dinner in Istanbul, highlighting the “historical bonds of friendship” between the two nations. Calling New Zealand an “essential partner” in the Pacific region, Erdoğan underscored Türkiye’s growing efforts to forge deeper alliances far beyond its borders — expanding its influence across continents.
