Erdogan Slams Palestinian Relocation Plan as ‘Unacceptable’ in Call with Macron

Erdogan rejects Palestinian relocation to third countries in call with Macron, emphasizes Türkiye’s role in Russia-Ukraine peace talks.

Erdogan Rejects Third-Country Relocation for Palestinians

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has strongly condemned recent proposals to relocate Palestinians to Egypt, Jordan, or any other third country, calling the plan “unacceptable.” In a phone call on Sunday with French President Emmanuel Macron, Erdogan reiterated his firm stance against any forced displacement of the Palestinian people, according to a statement from Türkiye’s Communications Directorate.

Support for Palestinian Sovereignty

Erdogan’s rejection of the relocation plan reflects Türkiye’s longstanding position in support of Palestinian sovereignty. The Turkish leader emphasized that moving Palestinians to third countries would only escalate tensions and undermine efforts toward a lasting peace in the region.

Push for Russia-Ukraine Peace Talks

During the call, Erdogan also highlighted Türkiye’s ongoing efforts to mediate peace between Russia and Ukraine, reiterating his country’s unique position as a negotiator. “As a country that has successfully brought both sides to the negotiating table multiple times, Türkiye can contribute to peace talks, including hosting them,” Erdogan said.

He stressed the importance of initiating a negotiation process that includes both parties, without excluding any side, as a path to a fair and lasting resolution.

Strengthening NATO Coordination

The two leaders also agreed to strengthen bilateral ties and work more closely as NATO allies. The statement emphasized the importance of coordinated action in addressing regional and global challenges, reflecting the deepening strategic partnership between Türkiye and France.
